The Oundle and District Dog Training Society is a Kennel Club Registered Dog Training Society and it follows the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme programme.
“The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is a dog training programme that promotes socially acceptable dogs and creates responsible dog owners. The scheme is non competitive and is open to dogs of all ages and all breeds, whether Kennel Club registered or not.Emphasis is placed on the handler’s ability to handle, control and generally care for their dog in a domestic environment. The object of each exercise is to provide a standard of control” (www.thekennelclub.org.uk)
The scheme was introduced in 1992, since that time four levels of Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog awards have been established, Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Oundle and District Dog Training Society runs tiered training classes that work towards these awards. The Puppy Foundation is a continuous assessment course but the other awards are tested by suitably qualified examiners.
